Abstract

X-recessive inheritance is fairly rare in genetic deafness (Brannet et al, 1991). Nance et al (1971) were the first to describe the syndrome as “X-linked mixed deafness with congenital fixation of the stapedial footplate and perilymphatic gusher” (McKusick 1992, 304400). This entity had been suggested earlier by Olson and Lehman (1968) and has since been confirmed (Thorpe et al. 1974; Cremers et al. 1983; Cremers 1985; Cremers et al. 1985; Cremers and Huygen 1983; Wallis et al. 1988; Bach et al. 1992; Phelps et al. 1991; Reardon et al. 1991; Tang and Parnes 1994).
