Summary
Research in linguistics and computa0074ional linguistics has been dominated by symbolic approaches for more than 30 years. But in the last years the successful application of neural nets to a wide range of different tasks has led to a growing interest in sub-symbolic systems. The aim of this paper is to contrast both approaches by applying them to a well-defined linguistic problem.
