Zusammenfassung

Im Laufe der letzten 20 Jahre hat sich die elektrische Stimulation mit Hilfe von Cochlea-Implantaten zur Rehabilitation tauber Patienten von experimentellen Einzelstudien an ausgewählten Subjekten zu einem routinemäßig durchgeführten, wirksamen und sicheren Therapiekonzept entwickelt. Die Ergebnisse der ersten Patienten zeigten, daß die elektrische Stimulation nicht nur eine ergänzende Hilfe zur Verbesserung des Lippenablesens ist, sondern darüber hinaus noch bei einer erstaunlich hohen Anzahl auch offenes Sprachverständnis durch elektrische Stimulation allein ermöglicht (Busky et al. 1993; Cohen et al. 1993; Dowell et al. 1986; Lehnhardt 1990, 1994; Tye-Murray 1992). Die Einführung neuer, verbesserter Generationen und Systeme von Sprachprozessoren haben bereits mehrfach zu signifikanten Verbesserungen des Sprachverständnisses der Patienten geführt (Gantz et al. 1988; McKay et al. 1994).
