Zusammenfassung
Die Cochlea-Implantation stellt für gehörlose und ertaubte Kinder die einzige Möglichkeit dar, zu hören oder das Hören wieder zu erlangen. Seit 1987 wird an der Medizinischen Hochschule Hannover (MHH) die Implantation einer Innenohrprothese in ständig steigender Zahl bei Kindern durchgeführt. Aufbauend auf den Erfahrungen mit Erwachsenen, die seit 1984 an der MHH mit einem Cochlea-Implantat versorgt werden, wurden die Indikationen und Kontraindikationen für die Implantation von Kindern abgeleitet und erweitert. Im Laufe der letzten 7 Jahre waren die Kriterien zur Implantation einem ständigen Wandel unterworfen, so daß heute aufgrund der hoch entwickelten Operationstechniken und der Vielzahl positiver Erfahrungen die Anzahl der Kontraindikationen gegen eine Cochlea-Implantation reduziert werden konnte. Heute können Kinder von einem Cochlea-Implantat profitieren, welche bei identischer Konstellation der Einflußfaktoren Ende der 80er Jahre noch von einer Cochlea-Implantation ausgeschlossen worden wären, wie z. B. Kinder mit oblite- rierter Cochlea oder Kinder mit Mehrfachbehinderungen.
