Abstract
Benefits of continuous culture application in the bioreactor for research on diazotrophic bacteria are outlined. Topics include determination of basic growth parameters and enzymatic activities as well as assessment of oxygen-induced metabolic effects. Immobilization of bacteria and creation of spatial heterogeneity allows modelling of the rhizosphere in the lab scale. Finally potential industrial applications are pointed out.
