Zusammenfassung
Überwältigende Fortschritte in der perinatalen Medizin erreichten in den letzten 15 Jahren eine weiter anhaltende Senkung der Mortalität sehr unreif geborener Kinder. Die bange Frage, ob damit ein Anstieg der Zahl entwicklungsgestörter Kinder zu befürchten ist, bewegt Geburtshelfer, Pädiater, Eltern und die Gesellschaft weiterhin. Sie wird kontrovers diskutiert.
