Abstract
The Standing Conference on Schools’ Science and Technology (SCSST) is an independent national organization established to promote the development of Science and Technology education. Its network of some 50 centres, based throughout the UK, offer activities which aim to interest and inform young people about Science, Technology and Engineering so that they can see the relevance of these subjects to industry and everyday life. Through this it is hoped that more people will be encouraged to make careers as scientists, technologists and engineers.
Effective focused industry links play an important role in improving the educational experience for pupils, not least by enabling teachers to keep pace with scientific knowledge and technological innovation, which can relate to the body of knowledge being taught in the school curriculum.
These links also make a significant contribution to making more resources available to schools both directly and indirectly. From seeing the relevance and need, pupils are encouraged to raise their own personal skill levels.
