Zusammenfassung
Der Dienst Bildschirmtext (BTX) wird seit 1982 in der Bundesrepublik Deutschland als Telekommunikationsdienst angeboten. Die Ausbreitung der Nutzung dieses Dienstes ist seit dem Beginn der Pilotphase mehrfach prognostiziert worden. Aus ersten Anwendungen von Diffusionsmodellen zur Prognose der Nutzerentwicklung resultierten z.T. extrem überhöhte Schätzungen. Die diesbezüglich wohl bekannteste Veröffentlichung stammt von Hecheltjen (1985), bei der das Marktpotential mit ca. 20 Mio. Nutzern viel zu hoch unterstellt wurde, weil der Dienst als attraktiv für Privatnutzer unterstellt wurde, während er tatsächlich nur von Semiprofessionals genutzt wurde. Dagegen ist die Diffusionsgeschwindigkeit in einer realistischen Größenordnung angenommen worden.
