Zusammenfassung
Die Entwicklung der Telekommunikation während der letzten 150 Jahre ist von der Einführung und Ausdifferenzierung immer neuer Produkte, Dienste und Anwendungen gekennzeichnet. Diese Tendenz hat sich in den letzten 15 Jahren mit der Durchsetzung von Telefax und Mobiltelefon sowie der Entwicklung von Videokonferenzen und Electronic-mail bis hin zu Multimedia — bspw. Video-on-demand — stark beschleunigt (siehe Abbildung 1). Vor diesem Hintergrund ist auch der Begriff der „Informationsgesellschaft“ zur Kennzeichnung der Entwicklungsmerkmale moderner Industriegesellschaften zu verstehen.
