Allylboron and Boron Enolate Chemistry

  • Chapter

Part of the book series: Reactivity and Structure Concepts in Organic Chemistry ((REACTIVITY,volume 32))

Abstract

Reactions of allylic boranes with aldehydes have proved to be among the most efficient means of building a stereocontrolled set of several adjacent chiral centers. Boron enolates follow a similar mechanistic path and have also provided significant advances in asymmetric synthesis. The chemistry described in this chapter has been the key to a considerable number of major natural products syntheses, especially of macrolide or ionophore antibiotics.
