Abstract

γ-interferon (IFN), a proinflammatory polypeptide, and lipopolysaccharide (LPS), a bacterial endotoxin, are known to enhance the antimicrobial activity of macrophages and to increase their capacity to secrete reactive oxygen species such as hydrogen peroxide and superoxide anion (Bautista AP et al, Clark IA et al, Ding AH et al, Nathan CF et al).
