Abstract

In this study production of Cu, and Cu as mainstream wastes and magnetic iron oxide has been contemplated. For the purpose of recovering Cu and Co an arc melting furnace has been designed and developed. The alloy obtained from the arc furnace is leached by sulphuric acid and precipitated by H2S. Magnetic iron oxide is produced from the leachate using FeSO4, geothite precipitation, dehydration, reduction and reoxidation. The resultant end product was a market value magnetic iron oxide. At present studies an alternative processing routes are under consideration for optimisation purposes.
