Abstract
One of the major problems encountered by manufacturing enterprises today is heterogeneity, and this at different levels: manufacturing devices, networks, application software’s, among others. The transition or migration from proprietary networks to OSI networks generally occurs over a long period. The purpose of this chapter is to introduce the reader to the CCE-CNMA solution to the problem of network heterogeneity. This solution is called the Network Integrator Kit (NIK). The chapter starts with a discussion of the migration problem, describes the main features of the NIK, explains its operation and gives an overview of its design.
