Abstract
Housings are boxes with numerous functions. First of all they are used to support shafts by bearing housings. Second they contain lubricant and, third, they fix gear units in their working points. According to the first function they must be resistant as they must keep shafts rigidly in position. Therefore they are usually made of steel and their dimensions are calculated in order to bear the stresses transmitted with a minimum distortion. Secondly, they must be hermetic in order to avoid any leakage of lubricant. And, third, they must be equipped with carefully installed strong fasteners and support surfaces.
