Abstract
Growth and development among the terrestrial invertebrates of hot desert areas are limited by extreme temperature, low precipitation and associated reduced food availability. Breeding and the initial production of offspring are particularly vulnerable to the desert climate and in many invertebrates fecundity is reduced during drought years or the dry season (Riechert 1979).
