Die Anwendung von reinem Sauerstoff für thermische Prozesse ist in der Metallurgie bereits weit verbreitet. Stahlerzeugung ohne Sauerstoffanwendung ist heute weltweit schon nicht mehr vorstellbar. Größere Sauerstoffverbraucher sind an Sauerstoffpipelines angeschlossen.
