Forest Decline and Atmospheric Deposition Effects in the French Mountains

Abstract

The Vosges mountains (North-East France) are a massif laying on silicate bedrock and subject to acid precipitation (Bourrié 1978). Since the early 1980s, a number of studies on the effects of acid precipitation on stream water chemistry (Fritz 1982; Fritz et al. 1984) and forest decline (this vol.) have been initiated in these mountains.
