Abstract

The resorption of orally administered proteases can be verified using various methods. Different results are obtained depending on the method used for measuring resorption (Streichhan et al 1995). The resorption of macromolecular structures through the intestinal wall, however, represents an exceptional case. Numerous mechanisms have been discussed which may play a role in the resorption of macro-molecules [4, 8, 9], Although the resorption of an enzyme can be established through the evidence of its structure, this provides no information about retention of enzymatic activity. It must be assumed, however, that the major immunomodulatory achievements of enzymes are attained by the active enzyme itself and not by its degradation fragments or inactive forms.
