Zusammenfassung

Die Karzinome des Pankreas bilden etwa 2–6% aller Karzinome. 1991 betrug die Inzidenz in den Vereinigten Staaten ca. 29 000 Neuerkrankungen (Rich et al. 1993). Nach statistischen Erhebungen sind 1990 in den USA ca. 25 000 Todesfälle an Pankreaskarzinom zu verzeichnen, d. h. es steht dort an 5. Stelle der Mortalitätsrate maligner Erkrankungen. Zwischen 1950 und 1985 stieg die Todesrate des Pankreaskarzinoms erheblich an. Derzeit liegt die jährliche Mortalitätsrate bei 10,2 Toten auf l00 000 Männer und 7,2 Toten auf 100 000 Frauen (American Cancer Society 1990).
