Zusammenfassung
Halslymphknotenmetastasen, bei denen es nicht gelingt, einen Primärtumor zu entdecken, sind nicht selten. Sie machen 2–3% aller Tumorerkrankungen im Kopf-Hals-Bereich aus (Nordstrom et al. 1979) und werden auch mit einer modernen Abkürzung belegt: CUP (carcinoma of unknown primary). Mit der vollständigen operativen Entfernung eines vergrößerten Halslymphknotens kommt es regelmäßig zu langfristigen Remissionen, deshalb hat man auch daran gedacht, daß einige Tumoren aus versprengtem brachiogenem epithelialem Gewebe entstehen; dies ist jedoch nach neueren Anschauungen eher die Ausnahme (Khafif et al. 1989; Shaw 1970).
