Abstract

The adult respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) is characterized by acute pulmonary arterial hypertension caused by vasoconstriction, hypoxemia due to increased intrapulmonary shunt volume and interstitial pulmonary edema. In addition, this can cause right ventricular failure.
