Zusammenfassung

Die Nierentransplantation kann mit Recht als eine der großen Errungenschaften der modernen Medizin betrachtet werden (5,17). Die klinische Transplantation wurde zur therapeutischen Realität, als 1954 am Peter Bent Brigham Hospital in Boston die erste erfolgreiche Nierentransplantation an eineiigen Zwillingen vorgenommen wurde (11,12). Der transplantierte Patient überlebte während 9 Jahren mit normaler Nierenfunktion, bevor er an einem Herzinfarkt starb (20). Die erfolgreiche Transplantation dieses Patienten war das Resultat eines langjährigen Strebens, dem niereninsuffizienten Patienten das Überleben zu ermöglichen.
