Abstract
The 10-year update of the world-wide overview of breast cancer treatment (Early Breast Cancer Trialists’ Collaborative Group 1992) has confirmed that adjuvant systemic therapy can alter the course of breast cancer. In women younger than 50 years of age (i.e. in premenopausal women), highly significant reductions in the annual rates of both recurrence (37%) and death (27%) are produced by adjuvant combination chemotherapy when compared with local-regional treatment alone.
