Value of Biodegradable Rings in Incongruent Digestive Anastomoses
The use of the biofragmentable Valtrac ring (Davis and Geck, USA) has quickly become an established practice in performing submesocolic digestive anastomoses. Although this device was initially designed to treat congruent anastomoses, we have found it to be an excellent solution in end-to-end incongruent anastomoses. For our purposes, anastomotic incongruence is given when one of the extremities to be anastomosed is at least one and a half times the size of the other.
