Scanning Tunneling Microscopy I

Part of the book series: Springer Series in Surface Sciences ((SSSUR,volume 20))

Abstract

The scanning tunneling microscope (STM) has begun to prove itself as a useful tool for atomic resolution imaging of molecules on surfaces. Applications of the technique to imaging of chemisorbed molecules in an ultrahigh vacuum environment, alkane-derived molecules, liquid crystals, and polymers are discussed.
