An Investigation into Process-Centered Environments

  • Alan M. Christie

To better understand process-centered environments, we will first provide some background context with respect to implementation methods and related technologies. The remainder and larger fraction of the chapter will then be devoted to a detailed examination of two commercial products. These products are ProcessWeaver, developed by Cap Gemini [ProcessWeaver 92], and SynerVision, developed by Hewlett-Packard [SynerVision 93a, SynerVision 93b]. They were selected because they represent major products in the new field of software process automation. This examination is intended to provide a feel for technology and its status. Currently, a rapidly growing number of such PCEs is becoming available in the market and vendor information for some of these can be found in Appendix C.
