Abstract
Eighty-nine patients suffering from non-small-cell lung cancer underwent pneumonectomy. We divided these patients in two groups; one group (n = 50) received bronchial protection with pedicled pleura, while the bronchial stump of the second group (n = 39) was covered with human fibrin glue. We found that four early and one late BPF occurred in the first group while the four BPF in the second group were all late. Our results show that the human fibrin glue protects better than the pleural patches in pneumonectomy patients, particularly in the early phase (early = 1 month; late = over 1 month).
