Abstract

One of the objectives of management of woody plant communities is to ensure sustainable exploitation of useful products of trees and shrubs. To develop sustainable exploitation requires production estimates of wood, foliage and fruit, their quality and availability in time, under different conditions. Such production estimates provide the basis for an evaluation of primary production of woody plant communities, e.g. in comparison to grasslands without trees (Sect. 4.8).
