Abstract
An anatomist, endocrinologist, embryologist, reproductive physiologist, nutritionist, teratologist, and educator, not to mention bibliophile, historian of science and medicine, connoisseur of the arts, and Californian, Evans was a dominant and colorful figure in the establishment of endocrinology as a scientific discipline and one of the most influential figures in the development of modern biomedical science during the first half of this century.
