Spiral Volumetric CT in Patients with Clinical Suspected of Pulmonary Embolism

Abstract

The clinical diagnosis of pulmonary embolism (PE) is unreliable, therefore varius diagnostic tests are advocated [1]. Lung scintigraphy is a non-invasive diagnostic method, which however lacks specificity. Pulmonary angiography, which is considered the reference method for the detection of PE, is the usual approach to this patient group. But this is a invasive diagnostic method with a certain morbidity (4%) and mortality (0.2%), and is not routinely used in daily practice [2]. We describe the use of spiral volumetric CT (SVCT) in patients with clinical suspicion of PE. The aim was to evaluate the role of SVCT in the diagnostic workup for PE.
