Abstract

We investigate the Wigner distributions for those states which lead to a minimum phase uncertainty for a fixed mean intensity. In contrast to the work of Bandilla, Paul, and Ritze (BPR), who use approximately a variance, we employ the Süssmann measure for minimizing the phase, leading to a phase distribution which is about twice as peaked than the BPR states. Our Wigner-functions show negative values for an appreciable mean intensity. These negative values occur when the curvature of the surface of constant energy in the classical phase space gets positive.
