Isotope Geochemistry of Mica-Type Minerals from Low-Temperature Metamorphic Rocks

Abstract

The systematics of common isotopes in sedimentary masses are often difficult to interpret because of the complex history of evolution of the rocks which very often consist in mixed suites of detrital and authigenic minerals. The chaotic isotopic relationship that is very common among different components in sedimentary rocks begins to give way to a relatively more coherent relationship among evolved components with the onset of metamorphism. Many metasedimentary rocks afford excellent opportunities to study the characters of dynamism of different isotopes in clays subjected to a wide variety of low-temperature metamorphic environments.
