An Introduction to Clay Minerals and Isotope Geochemistry

  • Chapter

Abstract

Clays are probably the most important component of surficial materials of the Earth. Because clays have been widely used by mankind since High Antiquity, they have been subject of a wide variety of studies in a number of different disciplines such as geology, soil science, mining, engineering, and biology. Readers interested in the various applications of clays are referred to the book by Robertson (1961).
