Mild Surgery-Induced Changes in Human Peripheral Blood Lymphocytes

  • Conference paper
Immunology and Its Impact on Infections in Surgery

Abstract

Surgery, though purposeful, induces a stress that greatly affects organism homeostasis. This in turn induces an impairment of immune specific and nonspecific mechanisms of defense that, despite advances in patient care, still are very often responsible for death [1], A great deal of research is therefore directed toward monitoring surgical subjects [2–5].
