Abstract
With the great advances in biology in the last decades we have become rather close to understanding — at least on the biochemical level — the onset of cancer in the biological cell. The goal of this book is to describe our present knowledge about the start of the cancerous change in the single cell in a qualitative form understandable to biologists, chemists and possibly to educated laymen. It should be emphasized already here that the onset of cancer in a single cell is a complex but purely scientific problem and it becomes a medical problem only, when due to the accumulation of cancerous cells, a tumor starts to develop in an organism.
