Zusammenfassung

Obwohl Mikroorganismen und ihre Toxine eine Sepsis verursachen können, wurde erkannt, daß die Entzündungsantwort des Wirtsorganismus das Ausmaß des Sepsis-syndroms bestimmt Die Wirtsreaktion kann von Entzündungsmediatoren vermittelt werden. Im Moment konzentriert sich die Aufmerksamkeit der Forschung auf die zentrale Rolle der Makrophagen und die von ihnen nach Stimulation mit Lipopoly-saccharid (LPS) freigesetzten Zytokine [3].
