Abstract
The objectives of NATO’s special programs are to promote research dealing with the potential for global changes within the earth’s environmental system. In particular, the programs’ aims are to describe and understand the interactive, physical, chemical, and biological processes that regulate the total earth system. Their primary goal is to advance our capability to predict changes in the global environment, especially those which result from human activities and their resulting impacts on climate. This requires understanding change that occurs from both natural and human causes.
