Zusammenfassung

Die Ursprünge der Interventionellen Radiologie wurden aus zahlreichen Quellen gespeist, aus Zufallsbeobachtungen im klinischen Alltag, aus industrieller und klinischer Forschung. Etliche Disziplinen (wie etwa Radiologen, Chirurgen, Internisten, Kardiologen, Urologen, Orthopäden, Neurologen) aus den verschiedensten Ländern haben daran bedeutenden Anteil. Mit der Einführung der neuen bildgebenden Verfahren und der technischen Verfeinerung des Instrumentariums wuchs auch die Interventionelle Radiologie, deren Devise vereinfachend lautet: „Diagnostik und Therapie mit Punktionskanüle und Katheter mit Hilfe bildgebender Verfahren“.
