Abstract
The present investigation deals with the differences and similarities in the energetĀ¬ics and the kinetics of the thermal reactions of oxiran (epoxyethane), methyloxiran and 1,2- dimethyloxiran. Experimental results on the isomerization of methyloxiran and 1,2- dimethyloxiran obtained in a single pulse shock tube are presented and compared with data obtained at low temperature. The plethora of decomposition and isomerization products observed in each compound is shown. A reaction scheme for methyloxiran is constructed and a comparison between experimental and calculated mole percents of products are shown.
