Abstract

The protooncogenes c-fos and c-jun, code for transcriptionally active nuclear proteins that may play a central role in the long term response of neurons and glial cells to stimulation and damage. Fos and Jun are also ‘immediate early genes’ (IEGs) which were originally described as a class of genes that were rapidly induced in cells stimulated with growth factors.11
