Zusammenfassung
Ohne Zweifel ist die arterielle Hypoxämie eine der häufigsten und gefährlichsten postoperativen Komplikationen. Störungen des postoperativen Gasaustauschs können in 2 Kategorien eingeteilt werden (Lotz et al. 1984; Schwieger et al. 1989):

Die passagere arterielle Hypoxämie in der unmittelbaren postoperativen Phase nach Anästhesieende.

2.
Persistierende Veränderungen im Gasaustausch, die durch eine arterielle Hypoxämie ohne Hyperkapnie charakterisiert sind. Diese bestehen über mehrere Tage und werden wesentlich von der Art des operativen Eingriffs beeinflußt. Zwerchfellhochstand und postoperative Immobilisation führen zu charakteristischen Veränderungen der Lungenfunktion, die zur Atelektasenbildung und zu Infektionen prädisponieren (Ford et al. 1983).
