Abstract

The treatment of low-grade non-Hodgkin’s lymphomas is still debatable. Treatment strategies are ranging from strictly palliative therapy [1,2] to aggressive regimens aimed at cure [3]. The need for new active drugs with effects on these diseases is recognized by both sides. This was the basis for our phase II study of mitoxantrone in previously untreated patients with disseminated low-grade non-Hodgkin’s lymphomas. This study documented high activity of mitoxantrone in terms of induction of remission in this subset of patients [4]. Patients with these diseases treated with alkylating agents alone are expected to have a long survival, therefore a careful follow-up of new phase II studies is necessary. This article reports the long term follow-up in this cohort of patients with respect to duration of response, survival, and toxicity.
