Lymphocyte Subsets and IL-1 Production in Children with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia During Intensive Chemo- and Radiotherapy

  • Conference paper
Acute Leukemias IV

Abstract

We have previously reported an apparent deficiency of interleukin-l (Il-1) production and impaired activity of natural killer cells during the entire period of cytostatic therapy in children with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) [1,2]. As Il-1, a multifaceted cytokine, acts directly on many immunocompetent cells, we were interested whether a deficiency of Il-1 production might contribute to the proliferation and distribution of lymphocyte subsets [3,−6]. Il-1 acts through receptors found on many cell types including T and B lymphocytes and natural killer (NK) cells [7,8].
