Zusammenfassung

Bis vor kurzem war die digitale rektale Untersuchung (DRE) die wichtigste und sensitivste Methode zur Früherkennung eines Prostatakarzinoms. Die größten Nachteile dieser Untersuchung bestehen darin, daß das Testverfahren subjektiv und daher schwer zu standardisieren ist; ferner eine minimale Tumorgröße und Lokalisation des Tumors voraussetzt, um erfolgreich zu sein, und für den Patienten, der sich dieser Untersuchung unterzieht, mit gewissen physischen und psychischen Unannehmlichkeiten verbunden ist.
