Zusammenfassung

Ein besonderes Kennzeichen der Atmungsregulation ist ihre Fähigkeit, einerseits als autonom geregeltes, unbewußtes System basale Mechanismen der O2-Versorgung, CO2-Elimination und des Säure-Basen-Haushalts stabil zu halten und andererseits eine bewußte Steuerung durchzuführen, die dem vegetativen Ablauf überlagert ist. Hierdurch werden Funktionen wie Sprechen, Schlucken, Husten, Lachen, Singen u. v. a. m. geregelt. Ein Funktionswechsel zwischen diesen beiden Grundfunktionen kann sich innerhalb von Bruchteilen einer Sekunde vollziehen. Der schnelle Wechsel wird nur möglich, weil sowohl die intrathorakale Atemmuskulatur, aber besonders auch die extrathorakale Atemwegsmuskulatur im Pharynx- und Larynxbereich einer autonom-vegetativen, einer Reflex- und einer Willkürinnervation unterliegen, was für die Zwerchfell- und Interkostalmuskulatur in Form einer Doppelinnervation gut belegt ist (Mitchell u. Berger 1975).
