Zusammenfassung
Die verschiedenen Erscheinungsformen der primären schlafbezogenen Atmungsstörungen (SBAS) beim Kind verhalten sich wie ein Schattenriß der physiologischen Entwicklung des Menschen, wobei sich das jeweils betroffene Teilsystem in der einen oder in der anderen Richtung verzerrt darstellt. Je älter das Kind wird, desto deutlicher stellen sich die Symptomenkomplexe der schlafbezogenen Atmungsstörungen des Erwachsenen ein. So kann ein 6 Monate alter Junge z. B. wegen eines akut lebensbedrohlichen Ereignisses aus dem Schlaf heraus auffällig und als Risikokind bezüglich des plötzlichen Kindstodes eingestuft werden, um im Alter von 5 Jahren wegen extremer Tagesmüdigkeit und beängstigendem Schnarchen als Kind mit schwerem obstruktivem Schlafapnoesyndrom (OSAS) auf der Basis einer inzwischen diagnostizierten hereditären motorisch-sensiblen Neuropathie behandelt werden zu müssen. Das zentrale alveoläre Hypoventilationssyndrom dagegen wirkt wie ein Nachbild des fetalen Atmungsprogramms, da das Kind wie in utero die Atemtätigkeit im Non-REM-Schlaf völlig einstellt, während es im REM-Schlaf und erst recht im Wachsein ausreichend atmet.
