Cloning of a Helicobacter pylori Flagellin Gene and Construction of a Non-flagellated Mutant by Transformation-Mediated Allelic Exchange

  • Conference paper
Basic and Clinical Aspects of Helicobacter pylori Infection

Abstract

Helicobacter pylori produces four to six polar flagella consisting of a central filament of flagellin subunits and a flagellar sheath a membrane-like structure containing specific proteins and lipopolysaccharide (Geis et al., in preparation), Flagella confer active movement upon the bacteria, a function which has been shown to be important for virulence in bacteria causing gastrointestinal disease [1, 19].
