Zusammenfassung
Im Gegensatz zu klinisch manifesten Schilddrüsenkarzinomen, die in Österreich ebenso wie in den meisten europäischen Staaten relativ seltene Tumoren mit einer ziemlich konstanten jährlichen Inzidenz von lediglich 0,0035% (Steindorfer 1990) sind, wird die Prävalenzrate klinisch okkulter Mikrokarzinome mit einem Durchmesser von bis zu 1 cm mit 0,5–35,6% angegeben (Tabelle 1). Für die große Schwankungsbreite dieser Angaben werden nicht nur epidemiologische, sondern vor allem auch methodische Faktoren und Definitionsprobleme verantwortlich gemacht, sodaß die Literaturangaben nur äußerst bedingt miteinander verglichen werden können. Da bis jetzt keine entsprechenden Daten für den österreichischen Raum vorliegen, wurde vom Arbeitskreis Pathologie in der ACO eine Multicen-terautopsiestudie zur Feststellung der Inzidenz des papillären Mikrokarzinoms in fünf Prosekturen in Niederösterreich, Steiermark, Tirol, Vorarlberg und Wien durchgeführt.
