Abstract
Vasodilation and edema are the main features of inflammatory skin reactions. The clinical correlates are erythema, skin thickening, papules, and vesicles. In the past most research was directed toward assessment of the vascular reactions, and the edema formation was overlooked. Recently, high frequency ultrasound has become established as an accurate technique to measure skin thickness and skin thickening non- invasively. With this technique much research on the edema component of inflammatory skin reactions can be initiated.
