Early Complications in Inguinal Hernia Surgery: A Prospective Study of 200 Cases

In a prospective study of 200 cases the complication rate after Shouldice repair for primary inguinal hernias was analysed. Within four weeks postoperatively, 7.5% hematomas, 6.5% seromas, 2% wound infections and 0.5% testicular swellings were recorded. The complications occurred between the first and the 15th postoperative day with a maximum between the third and the eighth postoperative day.
